First Steps

If you are interested in studying at the IEI, or have recently been accepted into one of our programs, review the information and resources below to help you get started.

If you are interested in studying at the IEI...

Step One: Review Costs & Dates

Review the Costs & Dates page for information about course options, application deadlines, and costs. The IEI Intensive English Program courses begin three times a year and follow the semester schedule of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Step Two: Apply!

Once you know which program you are interested in, it's time to submit an application. Submit an application on the How to Apply page. To be eligible for the IEI program: you must be at least 17 years of age, you must have completed high school/secondary school, and you cannot have a degree from a university whose primary language of instruction is English.

After you have been accepted to a program...

Step One: Get Your Visa

Review the Getting a Visa page for information on how to get a visa, when to make a visa appointment, and resources for preparing for the visa appointment.

Step Two: Plan Your Trip

Read the frequently asked questions on the Planning Your Trip page for advice on arriving to the U.S. and the IEI. If you have a specific, personal question, please contact the IEI.

Step Three: Reserve Your Housing

Students are responsible for finding their own housing. However, the IEI has compiled a sample of housing options available to Intensive English Institute (IEI) students. Visit the Housing page for more information.

Step Four: Registration & Orientation

As you prepare to finally make the trip to the IEI, review the Registration & Orientation page for what to expect.
